Hurricane Katrina and the resulting flooding physically destroyed much of New Orleans. Worse yet, the promised rebuilding is either not happening, or not being done in an equitable manner. Our small organization, walkin-to-new-orleans, can't address all of the post-hurricane Katrina problems faced by our beloved city and its people, but we have decided to tackle a few.

Our organization is called walkin-to-new-orleans.org. The organizational purposes are as follows:

• To ensure that the rebuilding is done in a way that maintains the unique culture and architecture of New Orleans.
• To ensure that New Orleans is rebuilt with direct and significant input from the people who lived there, including representatives from each New Orleans neighborhood.
• To ensure that the rebuilding jobs are given primarily to residents and that the pay for these jobs is at the prevailing wage.
• To ensure that all New Orleanians who want to return to the city are able to do so.
• To ensure that New Orleans musical heritage and culture are able to continue, we will give grants or rental vouchers to those key musicians in need so that they can return to the city.

Because of time and money, walkin-to-new-Orleans.org is not a 501 c3 organization so that donations made will not be tax deductible. We may also want to provide funds to other organizations who will fulfill the above purposes.

If you were considering helping us or Laid Back Tours financially, as so many of you have expressed, instead, please make a donation to walkin-to-new-orleans.org. Since all the work of this organization will be done by us and other volunteers, your donation will go directly for the above mentioned organizational purposes. The most important thing to us at this point, is to bring New Orleans back with its soul still intact.
